I have a lot more opportunity to influence campaigns now that our old director is gone. Our new one came on board 5 months ago, and she's been very receptive to our ideas and feedback on campaigns. It's a nice change of pace and has earned her a lot of respect for not having a "my way or the highway" attitude.
Yeah, one person can really drag a campaign down. The next question, which definitely varies, is how many cooks are too many in the kitchen? Do you feel like having more voices involved in the process makes it stronger, or does it start to get chaotic?
In UX design, it should be both. It doesn’t always happen that way and we may just focus on creative.
Yes, I get streamlining something. Too many opinions can muddy the water, but I find it helpful to be involved in the whole process.
As one of several marketing managers, I’m usually involved in both the strategy and execution. I get to help shape the ideas, especially during brainstorming, but I also take the lead on execution. It really depends on the team dynamics, some are more hands-off with strategy, others give you full ownership. How about you?
Definitely sounds like you wear a lot of hats!! It's not super usual for a strategist to carry out the full execution too. Are you enjoying all of the responsibilities or does it feel overwhelming? I've never been on such a small team..
We’ve had some leadership changes, and vacancies, so a bit all over the place with normal operating. Generally you can bring ideas to the table, but at the end of the day, it’s go do this and that. Varies a lot with the project and whoever we have at the time.
Agreed! I think this applies to every company haha
I don’t think it’s necessarily helpful to arbitrarily split “strategy” and “execution”. One without the other is pointless at best, damaging at worst.
Having said that, if you mean “execution” in the sense of day to day monitoring and optimisation then that’s a different skill set and you probably want an expert handling it. Otherwise you run the risk of trading off effectiveness (strategy) in the pursuit of efficiency (tactics/execution)
