Which consulting firm provides the best standard work laptop? EY offers the HP Elitebook. Great for work and personal use.

EY1 we talking about the same laptop? I have the silver one that is really light. The screen is great for watching Netflix. Can’t really speak on the work performance , typically use the client laptop which sucks.

Still not the same one OP is referring to. I also just joined even then there were 2 different versions of the elitebooks in my start class

WMP gives a touchscreen X1 carbon, the best work laptop imo. Then again, you have to deal with the peanuts instead of a base salary.

like

Yep, that’s there one. Those rock. The i7 version is crazy fast too and has a longer battery life than seems possible given the specs and weight.

Has anyone in consulting ever gotten a mac ? Just asking. If not then why is it not preferred.

We have thinkPads which is fine. Probably going to switch to HP spectre soon. Our developers can order a 16“ MacBook Pro if they want to.

I would never dream of using my work laptop for personal use with all the monitoring tools that the IT people use.

I've worked at firms that had software that took screenshots every 30 seconds and recorded all web activity. It's not about personal use being okay, but more about the invasion of privacy in the "interest" of protecting the client.

Additional Posts in Consulting

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!
