All this AND corporations are taking forever with the hiring process lately too. Been interviewing at my top choice company since August and every time I think I’m ghosted, they call me in for another round of interviews 5-6 weeks after the last round. I’ve never seen tech or agencies move this slowly before.
So there's a lot of candidates looking for work right now. You might not be the top choice but still in a favored position, so the team may want to try and bring on their #1 preferred candidate and keep you in reserve in case that person doesn't work out.
It stinks. Sorry you're stuck in a holding pattern, to your point hopefully they bow out or ask for a crazy salary or something.
Unfortunately, nowadays no one wants to be the bearer of bad news, and face a possible blowback. Thus, the default position has become, “If we want to go further, you will hear. If not, maybe something in the future will be appropriate, so please apply again.” I don’t like it, but is what I have concluded is the mindset. Some corporations flat out say this upfront. Just retain confidence in yourself and keep moving.
Because a lot of recruiters are genz and their behaviors carry over from their dating lives.

Some interviewers just can't handle bad news or confrontation
Yeah but it’s an email. It’s not in person or over the phone.
Pro
Cause they’re incentivized not to

It’s also a buyer’s market. Three years ago when everyone was on a hiring spree, set different story.
I had a company email me after 4 rounds of interviews for an offer. I shared my avaiaibility for offer call. never heard back. weirdest shit in my 35 years
