Why do we have to pay tax on extra bonuses? My company offers a $500 referral bonus if a friend joins and stays for at least six months. I was excited to see it added to my paycheck, but after taxes, it was only a portion of the $500. That felt a bit disappointing. I wish bonuses could just be paid as they are, without deductions.

Does anyone else feel it’s unfair to pay taxes on bonuses too, or is it just one of those things we have to accept?

I'm feeling incredibly anxious and honestly depressed right now because of work. I had already been feeling demotivated and wanting to leave but I was told on Monday that I was being out on probation for one year (I am not going into detail on this). And now my manager is pressing me about finding a new project role as I have been on the bench for more than a month, and one possible one may require travel. I just want to get out of my job now and hear back from the 10+ applications I have now.

Any advice on how to pick the best company for me when offered a position from more than 1 company? I've been interviewing extensively with 4 companies, and I believe 2 are getting ready to send offers. If I receive more than 1 offer - how do I choose? I compared benefits, pros/cons, compared them on Glassdoor, questioned them about growth opportunities, asked about their culture.....anything I am missing? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
