Gave interview sometime back, Initially they did not agree to the ask, since I already have offer from other org which is much greater than what Tavisca is offering.....Difference is around 4lakhs in both of them, the other org is mid sized company which gave higher offer... What to do in this case... Go for JPMC?? Or other org?? Tavisca JPMorgan Chase

I know of at least 2 candidates in the last 2 weeks with target UG, M7 MBA, great work exp (FAANG and T2) and neither got offers.
The bar remains very high.
Me
I can say as an interviewer the bar is not being lowered at ALL for client facing roles. We have a strict rubric to follow for the behavioral and case. I think McK (cant speak to BB) is willing to talk to more experienced hires/folks from non-target schools but everyone goes through the same exact process. I think it’s great because we are getting distinctive talent from more places to meet the pace of growth.
And I should say “not lowering the bar” PR statements will come well in advance of data to prove it’s true. If you ran this business what would you tell the rank and file? And given that, are you surprised the rank and file are repeating the party line here?
The net is a lot wider but bar is still high. Case study: Almost everyone I refer got an interview (most didn’t during b-school). No one I’ve referred has gotten an offer though...and that includes many strong candidates from other consulting firms. No referral bonus for me 🥲
Just one data point.
Bcg4, Where did you transfer from?
Why do you think the bar is being lowered?
Top of the funnel just grew bigger - the bottom stayed the same
Just because we are giving out more interview slots doesn’t mean we are lowering the hiring bar
The bar is not lower. We’re just interviewing more people, and putting them up against the same bar
MBB is not lowering standards. They are just willing to talk to more people. Think of it like the stuck up homecoming queen deciding to throw the unpopular dude a bone to see where it goes.
I've seen enough Rom Coms from the early 2000s to know that you should never doubt the nerdy protagonist
I would also hope we are learning something - top performers at other firms often perform pretty well here as well ;-)
FWIW: I know 2 people who were rejected by LEK but got offers from BCG, lateral hires
I had a friend that was laid off from LEK last September.
Net is wider than it once was but the bar is the same
Yep we are interviewing more people than ever but definitely not lowering the bar. - recruiter

Definitely not lower. I’ve done a few dozen interviews in the last 12 months and it’s the same standards it’s always been, at least for my time here.
As someone said, the top of the funnel is bigger and, interestingly, so is the bottom in some cases, but not because we’ve changed what we’re looking for. Imagine needing 10 BAs in an office in the past and interviewing all 100 then-target school kids who applied and met the bar. We likely identified 12-15 who met the standards, but had to winnow to 10. There were another 10+ people (or maybe 100+) at top non-target schools who could have met the bar if we’d looked. Now we’re growing, need 15 instead of 10, and big enough to have the capacity to look at top schools we’d previously ignored. So 150 in for 15 slots and we still identify 5 more would met the bar but we don’t select because we have a hiring target of 15.
Assuming headcount issues given covid so trying to fill to meet work demand?
But to your point likely more interviews but bar stays the same. Big four tend to compromise a lot on bar especially for referral hires and that comes through in the talent. That’s always been a key difference in talent when compared to MBB
Appreciate the responses - just wanted to get the sentiment from folks at the firm.
Giving more opportunities
Same bar

Wouldn’t advice on looking at who else is interviewing or getting offers to measure the talent pool. That’s just insanely fallacious
Well let us know if you get LOL. That will tell us a lot about where the bar js
Yes the last point I can agree to
They are also hiring a lot more of support roles.
I am also non-traditional (non-target 0YoE) and actually got an Associate role (generalist) offer last year during the pandemic. And I read an article that quoted US lead recruiter saying that they are now also hiring people from non-targets but they are expected to try much harder and perform much better.
