Being a member is free. So yeah, that’s still worth it.
Now is it worth it to choose Southwest over competitors? Increasingly imo, no — unless Southwest has the best routing.
Even before the changes, southwest was rarely that much cheaper if at all compared to the big 3. Not worth it to me unless they have the best routes and schedule where you are located.
Perks like free bags and no change fees were what differentiated them from the other airlines, and with those gone, they are just another carrier.
I've had the SWA credit card for a number of years, but I won't be renewing it
I will only use them in the future if there is a significant difference in fares than other mainline carriers.
I have a membership but I've stopped using Southwest.
Southwest has lost their way. They were something special for the first 30+ years of their existence. Flight attendants always were high energy and made the flights fun. Open seating was great, especially if you were flying with a friend or coworker. “Bags fly free” was a true differentiator. And they would have fare sales for short haul flights like $49 from LA to San Francisco or Dallas to Houston. Once they lost their edge, they became as bad as the other airlines.
