I'm probably around a 5. I don't think we're going to start doing layoffs in the short term, but the long term outlook is a little murkier thanks to all the rapid AI advancements. There's nothing I can do about it though, so I try not to waste my time worrying about it.
I'm not that worried. People always adapt. If AI takes some jobs, it'll create more jobs. The economy needs us to be working so the idea that we're all just going to get AI'd out of a job is not realistic. I'd say I'm a 2 out of 10 in terms of worrying.
I feel like job security is a myth now
I guess my anxiety level is the same as it's always been, so maybe around 6 or so. With all the uncertainty in the economy and the world, things in my own life have been going fairly smoothly. I'm not overly concerned about layoffs, as the one time I was laid off it came by surprise anyway. That taught me that there's no reason to worry about it, if someone looking at a spreadsheet and decides your department is getting winnowed down, that's it, you're cooked.
I'm probably at a 4. Yes AI is here and can do a lot but I think it's more of a tool. It's not gonna replace all jobs. That human aspect is still useful. Being proficient in AI will be an edge so that's where I would focus my worry.
I'm at about a 2 or 3. I don't think AGI is coming, but I do think people are naive about just how powerful AI will become in as little as 2 - 5 years, let alone 10. It will replace most of the workforce, and that is going to come much sooner than most people are expecting. We'll be lucky to have a 6 figure job in a decade. I think the best any of us can hope for is to gain the skill of training AI to replace human labor in practical implementations at companies because that will be the last good job before white collar work ends forever.
