With the recent strike happening in some healthcare industries, I cant help but think about how this affects job seekers like me. If a hospital recently faced a strike, would you still apply there? Recruiters, please what should candidates pay attention to before applying to a job after a strike?

The strike's main focus is patient safety and staffing. I wouldn’t be running to apply to anyplace where that’s a concern. Not a recruiter, but I would pay close attention to the agreements made that allowed the strike to end.

Even if agreements are made for the better, I’d rather not be in the turmoil involved after the fact. Probably a lot of emotions running high for a while.

That's an interesting question. Strikes at hospitals are not common, which is why they're always so newsworthy. Deciding not to apply to a hospital because they'd had a strike seems like an odd decision. A strike generally ends with working conditions having improved, so it's not like it's a hugely negative event.

Jessica Duncan, thank you for sharing your experience, it’s frustrating when positive changes don’t last. I agree that strong leadership makes all the difference, and without it, things often slip back to old habits.

That’s actually the best time to apply.

Ok, Thank you, I will keep that in mind as I make my applications.

I agree with just about every one who has commented so far. Didn’t recruit in the medical field but I would also do your own research. Check out what others are saying online, see what details you can find regarding the company/ where the job is located, etc. a big red flag can be hiring bonuses; it shows that the company is desperate and are dealing with major turnover. Hope this helps

Thank you for sharing your input, you are actually right with independent research part and I had not thought about the hiring bonuses being a red flag, but that’s a really good point and it makes sense that they could signal high turnover. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when evaluating offers.

Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.

Strategies for getting a job at Wieden + Kennedy:

1. Create a competitive shop that will steal all of their clients in the future, forcing them to acquire you today.
2. Become friends with every person at the agency and have them all refer you on the same day.
3. Just win all of the awards.
4. Start showing up to their office with big ideas, and complain about HR not being able to find you in the system occasionally.
