Working in HR often feels like navigating the world of "Yellowstone." We balance employee needs with organisational demands, much like the Duttons protect their land. It’s about strategy, strong relationships, and overcoming challenges. What parallels do you see between your job and popular shows?

Interesting comparison. In my role, it sometimes feels more like The Office than Yellowstone — lots of meetings, lots of drama, but not nearly enough action.

That’s a fun way to look at it. The office really is like a cast of characters, each with their own quirks and storylines. Sometimes it feels less like a workplace and more like a sitcom playing out in real time.

I work for the government, so I definitely relate to the show Parks and Recreation a lot. There are a lot of the same archetypes from the show that feel completely accurate to the types of people you see working for the government. I love my job, but that show makes me laugh way more than most people because it's so accurate.

I love that! You probably get more of a bigger picture of what's happening on the show when you compare it to your work.

How do you get out of the burnout cycle? I’ve felt overwhelmed for a while and now I’m in the “can’t function at all” stage. It’s so hard explaining this to my manager because I already have a workload that’s lighter than others (not because of performance or my request). Any tips on how to get re-engaged, since the overwhelming feeling will come back?

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Been in consumer insights all my work life (10 years) and considering pivoting to product or product marketing manager roles. Yet I have had some interesting convos for people manager roles in insights recently and wondering if I should maybe refocus my efforts there. I’m looking for a broader mandate than just my immediate pipeline. I have been enjoying insights but grow frustrated by the lack of decision-making power. I rather would want to take a path with high long term career potential.
