MSFT or AWS? As Tech Pre Sales and why?

Depends on what your looking for. AWS innovate at an incredible speed and you really can deep dive on any of that tech. It comes with industry recognition and can be a lot of fun.

That being said I’m currently weighing up a move as AWS is constrained by more red tape in regards to pay increases & packages. Although I haven’t worked at Microsoft from what I understand it’s also a great place to work. Once your at one it’s easy to go between the two, about half of my LinkedIn new job postings are people swapping between AWS and Microsoft both ways to gain large pay increases without the internal red tape.

CS and SWE is great in that it can be applicable to a great range of fields, to create immensely helpful tools for other things.

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.

Anxiety before your sales demos?

Do these 2 things I used to do to get over it:

1. Know the product inside out - it will take time for you to gain confidence in your sales abilities but if you know the product will you’ll be more confident in that domain.

2. Do more demos - the more calls and presentations you do the more comfortable you’ll get. My advice is to try to get on a lot of presentations, even with leads that aren’t so good.
