Not at all. I'm not one and wasn't sure on the salary, so I looked it up. If the results are accurate, it does sound like you're on the low end - Google range was between $40 and $65/hour. Not being passionate about what you do can be tolerable if you're paid well, but if you're underpaid and dispassionate, you should make the change. Can you talk to your manager about pivoting into either of those options?
I left a management position to return to bedside but only because the base salary was exactly the same, however there are no benefits or PTO or sick time. I'm now on the hunt to return to a similar nsg MGMT position mainly bc bedside nursing is just not offering full time hours.
Sounds like me as an NP!
I don't think it would be crazy at all. I think you should do exactly what you need to do for yourself and your mental health and your family. If you could be making the same amount or more with less responsibility, go for it.
Follow your heart. I’d rather try to go where I want to be than not try at all. Wishing you the best of luck!

No, you are not crazy at all. We have to do what’s best for us and that’s just it. Sometimes we question ourselves because we can’t others are gonna think.
Not crazy. I think pay can definitely be an impetus to make a change. I think $40 is relatively low for being a head nurse. (Some of this depends on where you live, but I still feel it is low).
The awesome thing about nursing is all the fields you can switch to. My biggest advice to nurses to find your niche and what makes you happy. Dont be a grouchy old miserable nurse. You can make a lot of money other places as well. I dont know where you live but in CA new grads can earn at least $50/hr in the hospital
Not crazy at all. I have been seriously considering going back to being an ICU nurse and ditching my job as a nurse practitioner. I was so much happier at the bedside. As long as I have enough money in the bank to pay my bills, who cares? As a nurse practitioner, I’m salaried which means I work 5000 hours and have terrible health insurance, so I figure I’m probably only really making about 2 bucks per hour anyway. I’m about ready to go work at Buc-ee’s at this point. Their assistant managers make more than I do!
