Would you move jobs if base salary is the same, but the new job has a higher bonus? I’m not sure how much I trust a discretionary bonus even though they say most people get it

The bonus sounds attractive, but it depends on how substantial it would be and whether it's much of a gamble whether you'd receive it. As a general principle I'd be disinclined to move on to a new company without a significant boost in base salary. It's a big change in one's life, and it should be done for a tangible reason.

like

That’s a good point. The bonus is about 10% more, but with base being the same I’m not sure.

I would if I was reasonably sure I'd get the bonus. No idea how to ascertain that ahead of time though. Maybe reach out to current employees if you're comfortable doing so to see how many people actually received it?

like

Yes good idea, I’m going to check and see if I have any contacts at the company

I’d weigh things like work/life balance, culture, etc.

Are you going to be happier or less stressed in the new job?

And do you have any contacts who work there to give you a realistic view of how much bonus payout is?

Well they are in person fully so that is a big drawback. I’ll try seeing if I have any contacts at the company to inquire about the bonus

like

It would depend on how much higher that bonus was and the likelihood they pay out 100% of that bonus.

I’m honestly not sure, but in my past years at my current company, there have been years where the bonus was 50% pay out. So I’m skeptical

New midlevel associate at a big law firm and still ramping up. I’m having a lot of trouble tackling small or discrete tasks that are either administrative in nature or otherwise because I don’t have a full plate and something to focus on. I feel bad stopping in the middle of the day and doing something else (e.g. watching tv)since I’m already not billing many hours, but my brain feels all over the place and think that may be the only solution. Anyone have exp. with this or advice?

As project management experts, we know how to manage teams. Shopify is simply a means to an end. I’m thinking about the idea of rapidly launching one product stores developed by primarily outsourced teams and fulfilled by drop shipping. Based on the success rates of the remote talent, suppliers, and product profitability, launch a health focused brand that is geared to solving the current health crises while reviving local businesses. e.g. Sanitization of public places at scale thru UV light.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question that’s kind of silly. I work at a pretty small company leading marketing. My title is technically Marketing Lead but I want to put Head of Marketing on my LinkedIn etc. I think of these titles as totally interchangeable—I just like the way the second one reads better. I know titles don’t really matter, but I’m battling a little bit of imposter syndrome.

Any consulting -> Tech sales people out there? Curious how consulting experience is perceived both from a compensation and placement standpoint in the tech world…? What should my expectation be? For context — I SDR’d as a senior in college and was promoted to AE right as I took a BA offer from McKinsey. Wanted to get broad exposure & become a more analytical problem solver… dont regret my decision at all but really loved sales and would like to get back around my 2-3 yr mark.

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
