I moved from Toronto to NYC last year. Went from 95k CAD to 200k USD (260k CAD). I’m only a 27 YO manager btw.
I also already own a condo in downtown toronto and I still left. I pay 2.7k USD/month for a luxury 1bed in queens. As long as your not eating michin stars every week, you are better off than in Canada.
Absolutely no regrets. I make more, have more fun, and my experience allows me to come back to Canada anytime I want (Employers in Canada definitely value NYC experience).
I’m in deal advisory big 4. Most Managers in HCOL are basically over 200k USD TC.

In a heart beat. Do it. More money long term. Way more. You can always live in JC and save 6% on income tax and $1500 on rent
OP, anybody and everybody can provide their perspectives here. You need to decide what's best for yourself while taking into account factors like family situation, stage in life (kids / no kids) and of course whether you see a future with your significant other (your current GF).
If you look at a pure $ perspective it is a no brainer, but you will need to have a heart to heart and determine how much $ is enough for you and your GF to move. But this isn't easy because you can't always out a $ tag on missing home..doesn't matter if you are making 2-3X...just need to accept this and maybe this is what your GF feels?
You may be faced with a difficult choice.
The small / big choices in life influence your life's path professionally and personally. If choices benefit both, then perfect but sometimes you are faced with a lever that tilts one way or the other with these choices.
I too think back about some choices I made but you can't live the 'what if' life and look back. Just need to take chances understanding pros and cons and look forward. I have no regrets..I might be curious in a while but that's it.
So I wish you good luck my friend....do what's best for yourself given your circumstances.

Thank you for your response! Greatly appreciate all the advice here
You can almost double your salary after currency exchange. Plus NYC is fun. No brainer. Live in Astoria, Sunnyside, Jersey City etc and you can find a big, inexpensive place in a safe area.
I feel you OP! I am in the exact same position as you. Both my gf and I have a really good job and a condo here in Toronto. And it would be particularly hard for her to find an equally good job in the US. So I would recommend talking it through with your gf weighting all of the options and potential consequences. But honestly, I would go for it cuz life is just too short to be wasted. If there’s something that you wanna try. Do it. But no need to rush it cuz you guys can always move after getting married or something as long as no kids.
Keep in mind. 1 year outside of Toronto is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, if you hate it you can literally move back to toronto quite easily with even better experience on your resume.
At least you don’t think about this 10 years ago saying you regret not trying.
Hey OP is EY office in NY hiring ?
Do it. You can always come back to Canada.
