I made a calculation mistake in my cost analysis in my Deloitte partner case interview for new grad 2023 position. Another thing that bothers me was when they asked my approach I gave a pretty detailed answer and one of the interviewers was satisfied but the second didn’t get it and asked me to explain it thrice and some to and fro talk was there. Rest of it was pretty good and I nailed the implementation part and behavioural for sure. Do you guys think I still have a chance? Deloitte

While I appreciate the "compassion and creative ideas", maybe we don't need a creative idea here but a basic one - maybe he can use his privilege as a straight white male in a leadership position to elect more black Partners and increase the diversity of our teams. I work at D and I can count on one hand how many other black people were in my orientation session of over 100 people. We don't need commitments or promises right now, we need tangible actions.
MC1 - curious about your thoughts around the role of sponsorship/mentorship? Borrowing some logic from some findings around lack of women in leadership, it was found that ppl typically select mentees with an affinity bias (ppl similar to us). So if white male is the leader, the leader will like select a junior white male to mentor as opposed to a woman as they believe they can relate more easily. As a result, they found women were disproportionately unable to find leaders to mentor them. At one point there was a go sponsor her campaign in Canada, and Deloitte participated, where senior male leaders selected a junior female to sponsor/mentor (It faded out at some point). Curious if this would be an initiative that could work? The learning experience helps a senior leader better understand a junior resource different from them and the junior resource learns from a senior leadership about their craft. Good idea in theory or something that could actually have potential? (Apologies if this already exists)

Leaders eat last. Look at the composition of executive team and compositions of partners and it will tell you the truth. This is just free eminence. I am person of colour and I don’t feel I have equal access to opportunity within this company.

There’s a few, D5. But regardless I agree with you

I find it cringey when companies make statements about current events if it’s not backed by action. What was Deloitte’s response to 9/11? Was anyone around during that time? Curious to know

That’s pretty cool!
In this case though, “racism is bad” is trite. Not to mention there was a protest about police brutality with minorities in our own city this weekend. It’s not just an American issue.

What a joke lol

So, how many visible minorities sit on the Executive team at Deloitte? .... none. All white men and women. You need to go all the way down to the head of an offering portfolio, about 6 levels down from AV to find a black leader. They need to back those words with action and not tokens.

Exactly! As a black colleague, thank you for this post.
Anddddd here are the cynics...damned if you do, damned if you don’t...there’s just some people you can’t win with
D1: fantastic, thanks for that. As someone who is feeling pretty helpless and lost, I’ve found a lot of the comments on the post helpful for me finding actions I can take as an individual. For me, having AV at least open the dialogue is enough action at this time. Perhaps in the coming weeks/months they will have some more meaningful actions but I think a lot of us are just learning and trying to understand how to better as individuals because clearly our past approaches are just not working.
Any communication about this at local offices?

We are 150 year old company, and we are equally responsible for systematic racism.
