Yesterday, during a team call, Sam thought he was on mute and started ranting to his dog about how clueless our manager is. Thing is—he wasn’t muted. The whole team froze. Our manager just said, “Glad to know your dog’s well-informed.” Sam turned bright red, apologized, and the call moved on like nothing happened. Later, we found out the manager messaged him saying, “Next time, share the feedback directly. I don’t bite.” Honestly, it made all of us respect him more.

Wow, that could have ended VERY badly. This manager's energy is literally what I'm trying to manifest in my own professional journey. Kudos to your manager on this one.

Totally agree. Having that kind of confidence and presence can change the whole vibe at work. It’s the kind of leadership that makes you want to step up your own game.

Crazy coworker story! That is very stand-up of your manager. And a great reminder to just keep comments to ourselves, although this situation seemed to go well.

For sure. Sometimes it’s better to bite your tongue, but when you do speak up like that and it works out? That’s a win. Definitely a good example to remember.

What are some good practices during the sales phase of a potential project to execute before the contract is signed? Seems obvious but would love some ideas on standard operating procedures that help with seamlessly handing over a signed contract to the account team. For example, speaking to the potential client explicitly about their role in staying on schedule, reviewing scope creep consequences, etc.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
