What are some good practices during the sales phase of a potential project to execute before the contract is signed? Seems obvious but would love some ideas on standard operating procedures that help with seamlessly handing over a signed contract to the account team. For example, speaking to the potential client explicitly about their role in staying on schedule, reviewing scope creep consequences, etc.

If signature is guaranteed and in progress, there's a lot you can do to get started quickly and on the right foot.

Organize a small group debrief with the sales person, account manager, and project manager. The goal of this conversation is to relay important contract and expectation information to the production team leads. You should align here on what is in scope and what is out of scope, and when you might trigger a change order. (This is different from an internal project kick off.)

You can also ask the client who core stakeholders are going to be, and who secondary stakeholders are so that there are no surprises when you need to get feedback or approvals in the production process. Are there any other vendors you need to collaborate with, are there any integrations with tools or products that you should be aware of? Get that information early on so you can build it into your project plan.

This is also a good point for you to ask the client to deliver any analytics, personas or brand guidelines, any artifact that will influence your team's ideas or deliverables. If you are rebuilding or designing a website or an app, you should ask for access to the back end and the code base and any repositories at this point.

Getting all of this information up front will allow you to get started on the right foot and demonstrate competency in the kick off meeting. If you can show the client you've already looked at their brand guidelines and their analytics that you've already seen their code base and have questions or suggestions on next steps, and that you're taking care to include all relevant stakeholders in the process, they will know that you are invested in them. This will kick start the trust building process the right way.
