Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I was once advised that anything that can be negotiated should be. If you decline to negotiate you can come off as a pushover or somehow less than professional. The problem is that you have to negotiate realistically. If you ask for more than the potential employer considers reasonable you run the risk of having the offer rescinded. In a job market like the current one, companies may have a hair trigger over stuff like that, as there's no shortage of candidates right behind you who will accept any offer that's made.
This is SO spot on. I learned very early on that you have to ask for more or they will never give it to you. Negotiating an offer and asking for more is so important.
