Over 40 in Advertising

Turning 50 this year. Looking into in-house jobs and attending interviews. I am already mourning leaving the world of advertising agencies as it’s all I know. But I don’t see other options.

Totally random post, but I’m watching Desperately Seeking Susan and realized it is 35 years old. The days may drag, but the years sure do fly.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good independent financial advisor? I want to pay someone for a couple hours of time/advice who is in no way incentivized in what we end up doing w our $$.

I was working with outstanding freelance CDs that were talented and really get it. Conceptual thinkers, with fresh ideas and better than full time CDs.

They were let go because they are old.

Anyone ever consider learning a trade at this point as a backup? Half joking, but as I watch senior people get let go (a glimpse into my future), I feel like it’s not the worst idea I’ve had.

I will be let go within 6 months due to my cost aka salary. I’ve generated untold amounts of revenue and profit in my tenure. It’s frustrating I’ll take a pay cut and work in TV instead.

My position was eliminated, due solely to not meeting financial goals. Within 24 hours, company was interviewing for same role, just at a Director level. I’m over 50-How do I get a new job now?

I was told that my portfolio won’t get past millennial gatekeepers because my reel has a lot of work in SD instead of HD. Anyone else here can’t show great work because low res makes it look old?

I don’t know how to feel. I am 52 and hired 2 creatives both at least 5 years older than me. It felt good to add depth to a young team, but on the flip side, these guys had to accept rather low wages.

I’m over 40 (hence, the post in this bowl) and got laid off very recently due to agency business losses. It’s not very easy to transition to the more stable Client side. I’m thinking of WFH. Advice?
