Thanks to all who have offered to help. Despite losing a little faith in our industry, our community remains strong. And as always, my DMs are open! Thanks again. 🙏🏻
You have the microphone. Please tell us what you do and what level and what you’re good at.
Would you go inhouse? If you would pm me your resume.
It’s important to always remember that getting laid off is a near inescapable event in our industry. It says little to nothing about you or your skills. So don’t take it too personally, even though it can be very hard not to.
Sorry to hear it. We’ve all been there. Let it sink in and go through all the stages—grief, rage, acceptance, etc—then get to either freelancing (good way to ease into getting “back in the saddle” while looking for FT). Can you freelance? Married/kids? Lots of factors of course but hang in there—unfortunate reality of this biz that we’ve ALL been through.
I’ve been interviewing for a month now. I got a slight heads-up. Unfortunately, my role doesn’t lend itself to freelancing. No partner, so no dual income. If I don’t get something in two months I’ll need to put my house on the market and sell my car. All the positions I’m interviewing for are a lot less money. One is $55k less. So life changes abound either way.
What city are you in? I, too, have been laid off three times in my career and each time it has worked out to be a better job, life experience in the long run. Know that it’s not the end of the road for you. Things have a way of working out! Best of luck!
Bummer. Sorry that happened to you. I've been through the same type of rounds. Based on what you've shared, it seems like now is as good a time as any to transition out of the industry, unless you start your own ad agency. You can always utilize your wealth of knowledge in a different industry that's in need of your talent. If you're in your 40s, you may want to spend the next decade building and working at something that will give you a solid end game, whatever that end game is for you.
Where are you based? I’m in Portland (OR) and have recently switched to becoming a recruiter / talent scout here. I moved from New York (a city I thought I would never leave) and I love it here. PM me or email me at s.towers@bolywelch.com and I’d be happy to see if I can help you. I know of several opportunities.
To what??? I like this business. Its grueling, but can be fun and creative. Just gotta find that fit. For sure it’s hard. Nothing is permanent. Media is unstable and evolves very quickly. Just have that in mind always.
