How do I get a job as a software architect?

When I talk to recruiters, they keep telling me stuff like "mostly companies like to promote from within for architects". Is this actually true, or are they just lying to me because they don't have reqs for architects?

I got strung along at my last job trying to get the position for years. It's not the best example of workplace, but I don't want it to happen again.

When looking for Associate Program Management roles, all the searches come up as Business Analyst. I’m a systems engineer with 3 YOE so would moving to a business analyst be a step in the wrong direction? I feel like I don’t have enough YOE for a program manager role.

For those of you who got into FAANG or other tech company as a dev (swe, DS, DevOps, etc...) How did you word/express your resume to show that you worked on an internal product/platform?

I feel like there's a lot of client facing dev roles or dev roles that rotate a lot of projects. I think real tech companies have a bias towards devs from consulting companies due to this... But I've personally been working on a long term platform at Deloitte.

Hi there,

I'm receiving a [retention] bonus, but given the amount received after tax I'm considering using this for personal dev and some qualifications. I don't have any certifications or anything of yet and so looking for advice on areas to investigate. Right now it's BA and Agile areas.

I'm a technical consultant working on Greenfield projects in legal tech but looking to move into a role focusing on business analysis, change management and tech operations

Thanks!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on applying to several different positions within the same company? I’m looking at about 4 each with different focuses but mainly revolving around data analytics or entry level project analyst/coordinator. A friend of mine said it’s not a good look as it shows the company that you’re desperate. I really disagree, I feel it’s in your best interest to apply as many as you feel qualified for. Any thoughts?

A recruiter recently messaged me about an Amazon Robotics contractor role. My ultimate goal is to become FTE at a FAANG one day—will being an Amazon contractor hurt or help my chances for that down the line? It’s for a Business Intelligence Engineer role, which is exactly the kind of role I’m targeting, fwiw.

Please help! I have always wanted to live in NYC (currently live in the Midwest). I have the opportunity to move in with a friend to an apartment in NYC for about 2k/month. Currently my salary is 95k, I’m maxing out my 401k, Roth IRA, and contributing to employee share plan. After all of that my biweekly take home pay is $1650. Is it stupid for me to move to nyc and pay 2k in rent with that take home pay? Is it worth while for me to decrease contributions to live my dream out for a year or two?
