Yeah. Immigrant here. There’s a saying In my language that says “a tree that falls makes a lot more noise than a forest that grows”. The tragic recent events are emphasizing serious issues than need to be addressed, and hopefully we’ll see changes in the near future. We could also talk about other issues where the US is a bit behind (foreign affairs, lack of healthcare, cost of education etc.). But overall it’s still a great place to live, and it is the reason why so many immigrants are trying to come and live here. Are there murderers, racist folks, crazy people and dumbfucks in this country? Definitely, as with any place on earth. But idk for you guys but since I moved to the US, the vast majority of people I met were very nice, welcoming and much more friendly than in the country I come from. I have so many stories of people helping me during tough situations than my friends from my country of origin don’t believe me.
Singapore is not homogenous
10, I’m going to repost something I posted to another thread because y’all need it. This is coming from proud, ex-mil vet, brown, son of an immigrant, that has seen how beautiful and sh!tty this world can be...
We’ve been through worse. The civil war took 50k in one battle. I’m not trying to negate or disregard what happened this weekend nor the impetus but we are free society whose government needs to be reminded that it works for all people. All governments need this. Remember we are the only country that has fought a civil war to recognize that humans can’t be owned, the only country that formally recognizes the rights of minorities, the only country that has sent a man to the moon and the country that fought a two front war against fascist nazis, and allies. Our history is unique, and ugly and is what makes us stronger in the long run. We’ll get through this, and be a better country for it.
Yeah that civil war is still being fought, it never ended. Mission not accomplished.
Unpopular opinion but still a 10 for me. Haters gonna hate but I’d rather be no where else. And I’m a POC too. Other countries have hella problems too.
Singapore is actually very diverse (although they have their own issues)

Go spend some time pretty much anywhere else and you’ll see.
The problem starts with thinking that a higher standard of living means higher salary and more material possessions. A higher standard of living should mean a better quality of living, not a golden cage.
Can we go into negatives?
Updating my response (not mece)...

Life is smaller and more homogeneous and calmer and a little more dignified in other countries. In USA it’s a flamboyant roller coaster ride, boom/bust cycles all the time. It gets a little old after all that hype on innovation and exceptionalism and passion wears off.
Then you want to go back to smaller, kinder, gentler, calmer, and contemplate the sunrise, sunset, blue and gray skies, trees and birds. Can’t do that in USA unless there is a pandemic forcing you to stay still and be calm.
That people could rate it less than a 5 shows how great it truly is IMO...the echo chamber it creates demonstrates how privileged most people are. Plentyyyy of issues, sure, but the fact you have people saying “CaN I gIvE a nEgATiVe sCoRe?” shows that even people at the top of the food chain, which I would consider just about anyone with access to this app (aka people working at some world renowned companies) will find something to complain about. It shows how America has made people so damn comfortable they take for granted just about everything. What I think makes the US look so bad nowadays is the media seems hellbent on dividing the nation and making everyone look stupid, and you have a massive demographic that eats it up. Son of an immigrant, POC, since that seems to give credence here.
^agree with this
I would, unequivocally state, America is great and has been great for decades. I’m an immigrant, and in no other country in the world would I get the opportunities I’ve gotten here.
The people are kind, compassionate and generous - no other peoples give as freely or as much as Americans do in charity or to help a neighbor in need.
What is screwed up is our representation, that has become so embedded in its lofty offices, that it has lost sight of its purpose. Self aggrandizement has replaced the real reason they were elected. When people cling to power or seek more of it they become corrupted and the only way they can continue to rule is to divide and profit from those divisions. Our representatives are not representing us, the people, any longer, they represent themselves and the special interests that keep them solidly in their seats.
That said, it’s also sad, that I, a POC, cannot identify as American because I’m not white. People ask me, no, but you’re not American... America is as much my country (spent 30+ yrs here) as it is any body else’s. I have no place to go because I don’t belong anywhere else, America is home and, to me, America, despite its ugliness, is still beautiful and great!
I agree with just about all this. The biggest thing that has been lost on people is the land of opportunity. Such opportunity that we have people throwing bricks through businesses windows, and it’s being defended by the very customers of those businesses while turning their nose up at anyone that frowns upon it. I’m a POC staunch conservative that lives in the Deep South (originally from the NE), and I never want to leave. My experience has been discrimination has become much less rooted in skin color, and much more in political affiliation.

I had to leave America. But I’ll still fight my way back eventually.
Controversial I know, but we're still the most diverse country in the world, soon to become one of the first (maybe the first?) large majority minority countries in history. It's tough right now, but we're having super important conversations and revelations about race and equal treatment far ahead of anyone else. If we come through this the way we should, we'll be setting a really powerful example for the world (understand that's a big 'if')
11!
I’ve been fortunate to have traveled to many places across our globe over the years. It always seems nice to leave, but I am always REALLY happy to cross the ADIZ and even more overjoyed when those aircraft wheels land on American tarmac. Other countries don’t value human life or preservation of self like we do. They don’t afford you the same rights or protections. Go elsewhere if you don’t like it here but I’ll guarantee you that you will want to come back!

A solid 3. 3 1/2 if you count the Grand Canyon.
Was it ever great?
Yeah great marketing

Immigrant, minority and love the greatest country on earth. Those that don’t love it should consider other options.

10- wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!
This is for those that think this country sucks. I rate it 10\10 trust me You don’t know how good you have it until you go elsewhere, there is a reason people want to immigrate here. I however don’t want to down play your hurt in this country but it is a country that allows you to hold it accountable and protest and voice your concerns, while over time change occurs. I know it is painful and it will continue to suck. It will be a while before you see the changes you desire but rest assured that in time you will see the change. This unfortunately is not the case for many places in the world, I have been around I would know and trust me on that one.
I know a thing or two cuz I have seen a thing or two.
As an immigrant and a new citizen, this is still a solid 8 compare to many places in the world. That’s not to say we can’t do better, nor expect better from each other (and yes, that includes our government).

10. I was born poor, went to my dream school, and broke six figs out of college.
Which countries? I’ll move there if they have better values and culture.
