The ride to P is enjoyable? 😂
It’s a lot. And attracts a few types of personalities. E.g., work is a bit of an obsession for me. I can’t just not care about it. And MBB takes full advantage of this trait. Pays well though
did junior years in big 4. gap is abyssal (talent, project, pace, quality, leadership, ...)
Can you please elaborate?
Chief
I did my staff years at MBB and then took a B4 equity partner offer. That was the way to do it. B4 partner is a great gig, but making partner at B4 is a slog.
Short answer: yes. That doesn’t mean a career at big4 is a bad thing.
Used to work at a big 4 and also feel properly challenged since I got here. Both in the soft skills (comms/ intuition/ problem solving) and in subject matter content
Big 4 life was much more sustainable and made great friends there even if I wasn't there for very long. Subject matter was boring and didn't get better as you went up. MBB talent is objectively better but there's a lot of hype on actual outcomes. Some cases are truly exceptional in terms of outcomes, but most cases tend to be typical consulting work (uncertain or low-medium impact). Private equity DDs are a joke and add zero value.
Everything and more
I loved big 4 when i was there. Feel like my perspective on what good was cracked open when I got here though. Found big 4 much more fun, friendly and sustainable.
