IMHO yes given how close you are but it depends how much you think you’ll travel next year. Having low status is always better than none, but the next level up is where better benefits start to kick in.
Platinum is much better than gold. It’s less about upgrades and more about being able to take the nice economy seats. They usually still do 2 free drinks, and you don’t have to wait until 24 hrs before. Upgrades happen, but they’re more rare
As someone in a similar situation for gold status, how has your experience been as far as getting upgraded?
Sorry to break the news K1, if you’re flying out of hubs you won’t get upgrades. As a high spend EXP, I often don’t get upgrades.
Might get some for off-consulting rush hour flights, like vacations, etc, but best to not get your hopes up.
Ahhh I figured. Thanks I’ll save the money.
As a Gold your best shot is at off peak when there aren’t many elites. Think Tuesday nights to smaller cities in early December and the like. At Platinum you’d have so-so upgrade rates outside of the Mon AM/Wed-Thu PM rush, but you need Plat Pro/Exec Plat for upgrades at peak.
But some status, even the lowest, still can make for a much better experience than none.
Agree...I fly from IND to DCA and when I switched from flying Monday mornings to Monday evenings, I almost always get upgraded vs. rarely on morning flights which makes sense given that’s most likely flight for frequent flyers
As a plat you also get access to AA and partner lounges when flying internationally
