Are you able to put business expenses on your personal card? If not, likely the Uber visa is your best bet with typical spend (don’t knock it for its name, look at the cash back rates)
If you can put expenses on your personal card, CSR is a more all around card (and is only a $150 annual fee after the travel credit) than the Amex plat - although I would argue that having both still makes sense
I’d say that depending on travel Uber + Amex/CSR is the best combination out there. I use Uber for everything but travel and my Amex (delta flyer) for all travel expenses. It’s worked out great for me.
Not fair to compare these two, CSR vs Amex plt would make more sense
I have the Amex plat (550) Amex gold (250) and Amex blue business plus (free, 2x on everything)
I downgraded by CSR a few months ago and got the platinum card. Amex points value has crawled up to roughly the same value of Chase points, plus you get the Delta lounge/centurion lounge access (in addition to the Priority Pass and TSA/Global Entry benefits you also get with the CSR)
I fly Delta so being able to transfer Amex points to Delta was an important decision factor to me
If you’re a travel points fiend and willing to expend the effort to maximize their value then either card is a good option. Personally what swayed my decision was that more places accept a CSR Visa based card than AMEX. For me, the most influential ‘hard benefits’ are below...
The CSR is good because the $300 travel credit effectively cuts down the annual fee significantly. You get access to priority pass lounges too.
The Amex Platinum has a $200 airline incidentals credit (must choose an airline annually) that is far less useful; however, you also get ~$200 per year in UBER credits that can be used for rides or UBER eats. These factors together effectively cut down the annual fee of this card. You get access to priority pass and centurion lounges — however there are new annoying restrictions for 2019 on centurion lounges... you can only access during the 3 hours before your flight!
If you hate expending the energy to redeem points for maximum value, the best option for you is pretty easy. Just get a straight forward 2% cash back card that has zero annual fees. I recommend the Citi Double Cash. You can use the annual fee savings to just pay for lounge access or whatever amenities that you feel you are missing out on.
