(Yes. This is advertising. Just try to blow it out so it doesn’t reek of copycatting. Happens all the time.)

Everything has been done before. Go for it.
Chance are, previous agency wasn’t the first to do it either.
How will you feel to see your pitch idea is on press done by another agency?
If you purely feel sorry to let a good idea die, maybe get in contact with the creative who come up with this idea and have their go-ahead before doing anything?
Quite honestly, it would only anger me if it was stolen from me before i could execute it. But if i did and i sucked, and see another agency properly do it better — i would just be angry at myself for not doing it well (and in silver lining, i’d learn a lesson, give it a golf clap and a touché).
Thanks for sharing this. I’m in kind of a similar situation. When I was an intern, my AD and I came up with a pitch idea for a pro Bono client. We made a deck and the CDs on the project loved it. Neither my AD or I were hired after and were gone just a few months later.
So fast forward 2.5 years, I’m back on the job market, showing my book to CDs to find a job. One pointed the idea out, saying she loves it and wants to pitch it to a client she works on on the side.
Contacted the CDs we worked on it with during my internship and found out they’d pitched it for over a year I left the place and had a Full polished pitch deck to show. So we’re gonna pitch the idea again.
Seems like fair game, since nobody who worked on it is even at the agency anymore.

Not the same. It was your idea and you’re still trying to get it to run. Which is awesome!
OP is taking someone else’s idea and trying to justify running it on a larger scale in a different market.

Totally up to you. I personally wouldn’t want to champion an idea that I didn’t think of that already ran in another country. It’s the kind of thing a client would make you do. We’re creatives and if we can’t think of our own ideas then what’s the point of doing the job.
If I knew you didn’t even think of the ideas that were in your book, I definitely wouldn’t want to work with you. You’re even saying you heard about this concept second hand from another team.
Right. That being said, this is one of the ideas we’re throwing into the deck. The rest are all originals. But this one has potential because the previous agency missed many opportunities, it is more relevant now than then, and technology has advanced to make it 1000x better
Also, we are the only ppl that try to be 100% different with our ideas than our competitors (other creatives in other agencies). Yet we are in the industry where our own clients are copying their’s. Just look at the car industry. Hyundai and Kia are banking making cars look like a Mercedes Benz. Nobody says a thing.
It must be an ego thing. Again, it has been mentioned before, how we think we are artists with unique thoughts, when in reality, we’re in the business of making advertising. Making money. And yes, at times, remaking old ideas.
Just look at the music top charts; there’s always a song with an 80s song remake in some way. Some dont even pay the royalty and make the tune slightly different to avoid being identical... and everyone claps at the Grammys.
