A friend of mine had something terrifying happen at their store during closing.

The manager was doing rounds and came across a customer holding a knife, with blood already on the floor. They had to call 911 right away. Later they found out the person was on drugs and didn’t even realize what they were doing.

It really shook everyone up. You go into work thinking it’s just another regular shift, and then something like this reminds you how unpredictable things can get in customer-facing jobs.

These type of incidents are happening a lot lately. Then customer wonder why retail stores don’t stay open as late as they use to.

like

Most definitely I hate what this is doing to retail businesses

Why was the person holding a knife?? And where did the blood come from?

like

I’m not sure what happened exactly, but it looked like he was trying to hurt himself.

I worked for a cousin of mine years ago when he owned a bunch of gasstations..at this one store for over a year and then one day he transferred me to a different location needed help..the very next day the cashier that replaced me got shot in the head at robbery took place where I was supposed to be working but had to be transferred,,I felt bad for the new dead guy..but that's how GOD spared my life

At that time it was hard for me to believe or accept ,.it was hard for me to sleep, or predict what to expect out of my day,,I refused to take time off to deal with it..I didn't want it to scare me off,,or force me to change my happy go lucky personality..I learned from it more than you can imagine.and gaineda lots of wisdom..for sure it made me appreciate every momentim livingand learned to makeevery breath i take counts.. ..very humbling experience.

I worked at a gas station when I was younger, and a woman would often look at me and whisper while walking around. She then opened the door and said, "I know you." It was nothing big or too scary, but it still creeps me out.

Wow, that does sound unsettling. Even small encounters like that can stick with you for years. People can be unpredictable, and sometimes it’s the subtle moments that leave the biggest impact !

When you deal with the public you just never know what might happen. I can remember incidents when I had to deescalate situations, and thankfully nothing got violent. In today's world I would be wary of being in that situation just because so many people are carrying weapons. It's just something that's always in the back of your mind.

like

So true, you never know what people might be carrying nowadays. Being alert is half the battle.

I've had some hairy situations, but fortunately, nothing that directly affected me like this. I've also heard about situations where things went south very quickly. A reminder that it is important to be aware of your surroundings, and your safety comes first.

like

Yeah exactly, it can turn south so fast sometimes. Staying aware really does make all the difference.

That’s really scary—glad everyone made it out safe. You’re right, retail can throw the most unpredictable situations at you when you least expect it.

like

Totally agree,retail is so unpredictable!

Wow. I feel very lucky that such a situation hasn’t happened to me. Very scary.

like

Same here, reading these stories makes me realize how lucky I’ve been too. Definitely scary stuff.

We had to close our restrooms to the public because homeless people and junkies were trying to stay in there all day and overnight. The customers aren’t happy but my staff feels safer and we have the non emergency police on call for unwarranted behavior now.

like

I get that, safety has to come first even if customers don’t love the change. Smart call on having backup from non-emergency police.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
