“A Skills Gap Is Turning Cleaning for the Rich Into a $100,000 Job

As the wealthy get wealthier and fuel a boom in luxury furnishings, highly trained household staff are in high demand.”

Why are all these jobs no college degree paying as much as accountants or more ? Accountants keep getting the short end of the stick

@C1, your take is wrong. Accounting firms have shortage of talent. Less and less people are going into accounting and most firms are struggling to fill open positions.

Second, I’m an AI power user at a top 15 firm that prides itself as “tech forward.” We are heavy into AI and AI development as a firm. AI is nowhere remotely close to being able to replace accountants.

Any suggestions for AI training or resources?

The simple answer here is point of use, if you need a house cleaned someone needs to come to the house to clean it, if you live in a high cost of living area that will be expensive. If you need an AP clerk you can hire someone in Uganda and pay them $10 a day to do the work. If you had to hire an AP clerk that lived and worked where you did that would be way more expensive. Basically any job that can be done from anywhere should have a really low salary simply because the supply side will be way greater than the demand side, if you have a job that requires someone to be at a certain place at a certain time then the balance shifts

Blue collar jobs may have a higher floor, but they’ll almost always have a lower ceiling. If you stay in public, you’ll be making $130k+ five years out of school.

like

More than 1% of folks make it to manager or above and make more than $130k/year five years out of college

like

Supply and demand? Accountants are a dime a dozen (for now) and honestly should be an automated profession by now

Listen I’m all about a union! So totally with you there

Many accountants are not making 130k+ out of school in 5 years. In addition, the trades get time and a half on over time. I know people in the trades getting $70 an hour plus time a half that is a crazy salary. I also met an aircraft mechanic who just did 2 years of school and he will be making that as well. Accountants have to keep switching jobs networking just to even get close. They just have to stay in the same company for a few years and it’s automatic pay jumps

It sounds like this job may not be the right fit for you. If you are truly unhappy in the role, it may be worth considering a different position or even a career path that better aligns with what you want. Maybe try housekeeping.

It falls into the category of jobs you originally posted about

It’s not just accounting. When society values white collar jobs / college degrees over blue collar jobs, eventually supply and demand catches up. I wouldnt necessarily say public accountants are underpaid, but blue collar wages have really risen because of the demand.

Sure - maybe you can make $100k cleaning a rich person’s house. How many cleaning jobs offer that opportunity? What’s long term earnings potential? A lot of other factors to way.

Yes but so do the other jobs they get new contracts and they get over time time and a half

The demand is high for this type of worker as most of them have been deported, left the country, or are in hiding. There's a big shortage of restaurant workers, hotel/house cleaners, and the like.

Hi everyone,
I relocated with my family to Ireland recently, one month ago, and while I got a lot of screening calls with recruiters, I did not hear back from any of them after our interview. I am still on the process of getting my work permit and I am very clear about this during the interviews, but I suspect that this is the reason why I am not getting any call back. Any tips on the first screening call with recruiters? Should I touch base with them after our interviews?

Have you ever accidentally insulted your boss, pretty hard core, in a meeting? What I do? It was a total foot in mouth, but it was a huge meeting. I feel like if I avoid an apology it might actually be better for me so that we can pretend I didn't realize it was insulting and was just harmlessly talking...

Just found out that my favorite aunt, who claimed I was her “favorite” niece, chose to leave all her valuables to her other two nieces who never visited or called her once in the last ten years. My aunt passed away suffering from cancer last year and didn’t have her own kids. I was there by her side throughout her battle. I still wish I had done more, made her life easier. I probably sound petty, but a part of me is forcing me to re-evaluate every interaction I ever had with her.

Hi all,

I need genuine advise if anyone has faced this.

How does BGV happen if one of the previous company has shut down & there is no contact with it's HR or any of the previous employees?

Does MNC's like Wipro revoke the offer in case BGC fails due to above reason?

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?
