what does your partner do
@Copywriter 2 - It's honestly hit or miss. Sometimes yes, we talk about something that's kinda interesting that can turning into another idea. Sometimes no, it's a number of things during the 30min+ call not revisited at all and we come back with completely new things. We have a great relationship though, and i want to make sure i'm helpful during our post-briefing chats.
But what you said about the brief brainstorming session is super helpful, seeing things in the eyes of the average consumer. I want to be more helpful and valuable during these calls and framing it that way actually helps
First off, kudos to you for recognizing this and wanting to find ways to improve how you work together.
Secondly, why can’t both of your approaches be your team’s process?
From what you’ve described, it sounds like you’re more comfortable (and prefer) getting started alone (thinking, researching, etc). Your partner seems to need collaboration to get their process going. By the time your partner is seeing your thought starters, more than a day has passed. That could stressful for them.
Would a brainstorm before you’ve fully researched the material hurt? It feels like a good way to cut through all of the bad ideas and low hanging fruit. You might even come up with an unconventional approach before being confined by the research.
And then you can always continue with your approach, meet again with your partner again to share your 7+ ideas that have a little more depth and polish.
Yeah maybe it's just the way i'm framing it in my head and being too rigid. Doesn't hurt at all to just get through the low hanging fruit and just chat about all the different, funny or crazy ways we could go about it. I also def am new so seeing how everyone works is insightful. Thanks for this, it was helpful!

Can you just tell them you need more time to marinate on stuff before connecting?
I could, but we have a good relationship and the way they operate I know that they feed off others' energy so i'd hate to be a momentum burster. Again it's not like it's a problem, it could very well just me being new to how everyone works and just gotta learn how to adapt better to people's approaches.
