it's a numbers game. Go for broke. Get on more tv pitches, more scripts, more everything.
Hell ya
We need to see your scripts to help; but not seeing them know that the best scripts are plainly written a create a quick cadence. Especially w/ comedy. Don’t get bogged down in descriptions
Hard to say without knowing what types of scripts you’re writing. In general, observe the creatives who keep beating you out. What are their scripts doing that yours aren’t? Also be brutally honest with yourself and the quality of work you’re bringing. Sometimes I read my scripts in a really annoying voice to see if they still hold up.
Hahaha thats great. Will work on my annoying voice. Thanks
Simplify as much as possible and time them out to be shorter than they need to be. Ideas are obviously the most important part, but writing something that's easy to follow on the page, that people can picture working in the time allotted, goes a long way. Don't make people work hard to 'get it'. To get better, collect spots that you like and break down why you like them: I love spots that have an absurd premise or visual gag (Little Caesar's obviously does a great job at this) but the dialogue is completely straight, so I try to use that mechanic whenever i have a lot of RTB's i need to fit into one script, rather than relying on words to bring the entertainment value. Also do not be precious about your work: ask people outside of your boss/ the decision makers to read them and give really honest feedback and suggestions. I learned SO much from doing this, and it is so much easier for me to articulate advice for newer creatives when we have something to work off of.
What problems are you running into?
Write a ton of options. Know how to edit to present your best. When you get feedback, don’t just make 10% of a change cause you’re in love with the first thing you spat out. Be willing to completely rethink or start over. Don’t overwrite scene descriptions.
