Definitely not just you! Not at all. I know more people struggling right now than I do people in stable jobs (not that anything can really be considered stable these days). Sometimes I get the sads and I let it happen, because it's a situation that's reasonable to be sad about. I don't let it become a pattern, though. I remind myself that the best way to give myself a chance is to keep trying to find work.
Oh man, I'm sorry you're going through this. I definitely relate. I've been bartending on the side just to make rent, plus it comes with free food which I rely on some days. Working all evening and looking for jobs all day gets rough, but that's just how things are these days I think!
This market is brutal, especially in entertainment where roles are scarce and competition is high. I’ve been freelancing, picking up small gigs on Upwork, and networking like crazy on social media. What helps me stay hopeful is remembering it's a numbers game, not a reflection of my worth.
I always recommend if an employee does not respond to an application, call and request and interview. What do you have to lose?
been 2 tough. I had no work for 2 years and I luckily just landed a 3 month contract
just keep trying, I have a feeling things are picking up a little
Let me assure you, you are NOT alone. I’ve been job hunting for months too, and it’s exhausting. What’s helping me is setting small daily goals, doing freelance gigs when I can, and leaning on friends for support. It’s hard, but we’ll get through this.
You are not alone.
The creative industries are suffering and there are a number of reasons this has happened but not really worth going into the case at this stage.
Keep at it is the best advice I can offer at the moment. Also, if you have the time, look at free courses to keep yourself up to date with the industry.
One additional note of advice - register on platforms like Tegus and Guidepoint. Your experience can potentially be used by companies and investment groups looking at the field you work in, You'd be surprised at how much you can earn from taking your experience and advising others, however - the work is not regular and should be seen as bonus earnings whilst you wait for your next role.
Best of luck to all!
It’s been so difficult over the last few years! I can totally understand- I do part time work in hospitality between jobs, sometimes do ‘free’ work just to build the networks.
Thank you all for the words of encouragement. I am certainly keeping hope alive, knowing that the right job opportunity will come my way.
You’re definitely not alone—so many talented people I know are in the exact same boat right now. The silence after interviews can be so demoralising, especially when you’ve put your all into applications. I’ve found small wins help keep me going—updating my reel, reconnecting with people I’ve worked with before, even just taking a walk to reset. In the meantime, I’ve picked up bits of freelance or short-term gigs where I can, just to stay afloat. Really hope something clicks for you soon.
