I was personally in the crossfire of a lot of holding companies’ “diversity efforts,” and they got around it by obscuring or hiding diversity hiring and spending numbers; looking the other way when existing vendors opened so-called “sister companies” and put their female relatives down as the owners (then counted those as “minority owned”); and
paying vague “diversity specialists” to give countless dead-end lectures, workshops and matchmaking sessions. All of which was dutifully fluffed out and included in annual reports to fulfill whatever shareholder zeitgeist needed to be addressed.
