BCG final round interview in a week. Any tips on what to expect in a partner level conversation?
- how is it different than the round 1 experience?
- how important is the casing component? I'm doing pretty well, but not perfect. Friends have been eating me 8/10, with the need to improve structure and be more top down in my communication. I'm wondering what I can do to improve that in a week and if that will be a deal breaker on interview day?

Hi all! I’m looking to connect with folks who either work at Coinbase or have interviewed recently for the Business Operations and Strategy Manager or similar role. I am looking to schedule my first interview which I believe is a consulting style case. So any details you can provide, I am all ears. The next interview will be a presentation. Again if you have any experience/advice on this, I’m ready to listen.
Thanks in advance! Help me escape Deloitte pleaseeee. I want this job sooo much!

My brother currently attends Cal and being from the Bay Area and having attended many recruiting events there for my firm, your friend’s opinion is not representative of the student body at all.
There is a vocal minority of students that might not be interested but for the majority Facebook and Amazon are among the top in demand companies at least for CS majors and that hasn’t really changed much.
I think you just happened to speak to someone super liberal who values those qualities but it’s not close to the norm.

True, Big tech is the new finance / mgmt consulting
As a psych major, I planned to enter counseling/social work and save the world. When I got into it, I realized most social service programs are broken and have many barriers to entry based on good intentions. A lot of the veteran employees were cynical to the point where they didn't care about trying to help because it was pointless. When I sold out for financial services, I sold out with pride knowing I could help wealthy people become slightly wealthier. Those modest tax-deductible contributions I advised were 100x of what the government programs did. I saved the world.
This makes me so very sad.

True. I sit in my backyard and tell stories of good old days. Is that a sign?
I went to Cal - I assure you most want FAANG

We aren’t having challenges with recruitment that I can see.
Not sure where someone thinks they are going to work that has the clean hands they’re looking for.

I just graduated distrust Facebook more than Wells Fargo.
I graduated a long time ago and I think FB is an abomination that’s should be burned to the ground
Personally would never work for google, Facebook, or twitter. They’ve been turning into partisan organizations for a while now, especially twitter. It’s getting to the point where it’s comparable to CCP, which isn’t surprising considering the vast influence CCP has gained over our media over the course of the past few years
WM1 if I shared my thoughts in public right now I’d be beaten in the streets. I do enjoy having real conversations with those that are willing though, because there is something much larger going on in the world than what the news is talking about
i am at Cal right now, and have very close friends ar Amazon and Facebook. Would say that these two are off putting based on pov due to they way they treat their people. Facebook you kind of have a dilemma of ethics with the corporate mission. Google is pretty favored among us. Apple is cool but also super mysterious so outsiders don’t know too much. The people who work at Apple are self-selective by nature of being fans of the way organizational command chains are implemented. Don’t know that much about Netflix but it def wasn’t as hyped as before.
But again, we go to Cal, and we can be hypocrites and picky. On top of that we’re millennials who value different things than the age group of people on this app.

Maybe I’m jaded and I’m a few years out, but I could tell he was judging me when I said oh okay yeah ethically problematic, but unfortunately I’ve already sold my soul to the devil
Lol
It’s very easy to get into FAANG from Cal. Your friend hasn’t gone a detailed comparison of pay and benefits versus other industry jobs.
I’ll DM you BCG2

Honestly each of the FAANG have their own problem areas. Each will do what it takes to get ahead. Facebook is everyones favourite villain of the day and their missteps are just more viral friendly content than others.

I would never work at Facebook.
Yup!!
FAANG are all massive corporations. They’re not really disrupters anymore, so it should be unsurprising that they’re a little less fashionable. They’re still very appealing job opportunities, but if you want FAANG now, you’re probably after very different things than people who pursued FAANG 5-10 years ago.

I mean feel free to present your reasons for why you feel that way BCG1? Would love to hear them.
However from what I’ve seen, most criticism of big tech is that they’ve monopolized innovation and make it nearly impossible for others to innovate at scale to drive disruption without being acquired by a big tech company first.
FAANG is all about make a ton of money then GTFO of California.

I agree with some of that.
However if you think the future of consulting looks stable with the kind of pension model available to retired partners today, I would disagree that is going to persist for those under 40-45.
They can work for a competitor and be blissfully unaware that it’s the same thing.
Being a “competitor” by default means you’re operating in the same space / industry. But there are lots of opportunities in other spaces/areas that are healthier and more impactful

I was also an idealist when I was younger...now I know no organization is unproblematic and recognize the reality of having bills to pay 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve worked for companies and nonprofits I “believed in” but they still had the same issues any business does. Fundamentally we’re all human and human problems will exist anywhere.

Stanford grads aspire to start up or VCs. FAANGs is a second option.
Are those comp sci graduates or MBAs?
I consider ethics among other factors. Frankly, I'm willing to work anywhere legal for the right price. Facebook and Amazon are not winning ethics awards from me, but neither are payday lenders, petroleum companies, and a list of others. FB and AMZN typically don't pay little enough for me to take issue with working there.
Having spent 20+ years looking under the covers of all sorts of companies both big and small I have learned there is no such thing as an ethical company. At some point every company of any scale will do something that pushes the boundaries of morals, ethics, and law. It may be something small like sweeping an indiscretion under the rug but once it starts it only gets worse.
In fact some of the companies that seem to have the best public reputation are amongst the most insidious actors in the farce. It's almost as if they are compensating for all the questionable behavior.
At least with some of the FAANGs there is so much public focus/attention and some transparency that you know what you are getting into.
I blew off half a dozen interviews w Facebook last year and this year. They take the abuse and keep coming. I’m an old millennial and wouldn’t work at either unless I was very very desperate.
