Hi fellow creatives! I’m looking for any and all kinds of creative people to participate in a research study!

I’m a creativity researcher working on my dissertation on the psychology & neuroscience of creativity. I’m interested in understanding how different types of creative careers, side hustles, and artistic outlets relate to our emotions, mental health, & well-being. Ultimately to help build awareness, resources, & improve the lives of creative people.

I found this recent report, Lemon How the Advertising Brain Turned Sour, pretty useful. It makes a case for big creative swings to garner long-term brand loyalty and uses loads of data.
Hmmm not a book but here’s what works for me.
- The Psychology Book. After all we’re trying to understand the mind and sort of manipulate it.
- Any culture related podcasts - ICYMI, Gabfest etc.
- Whipple this! Granted, it’s for copywriters but so much of strategy is based upon a single compelling argument
- JWT planning guide. Happy to drop it in a Dropbox for you
- literally any trend report that some big platforms publish: Spotify, Facebook, Pinterest. It will get you into the mindset.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ping me.
I also would recommend classes on Udemy. I love books but I retain information more in video form unfortunately - there are often workbooks/exercises too, and you also don’t need to spend 30 hours reading something.
Some Henry Jenkins might be good.
Honestly, read Adam Grant’s stuff. Your clients are all devouring it and it’s helped me as a creative.
Tom Piselllo has a great podcast- though I don’t remember what it’s called. He’s the “ROI guy” and often hosts marketing leaders around these topics- highly suggest 🤗
