I’m in an AM200 firm, but our office is relatively small with historical only 1-2 junior associates at a time. Looking for fun ideas and traditions I can institute with summers and the other junior associates to increase moral and better connect with one another. I wouldn’t even mind the hours of this job if people were kinder.

I have ADD and occasionally make small mistakes in my work, like leaving a word missing when editing sentences, small formatting errors or leaving an internal comment in drafts sent to clients. All partners have been very understanding and care about the quality of my work, and no client has ever complained. Partners and clients praise my work.

But now, one partner has become super mad and when I explained ADD, he said:

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

What’s big law like in San Francisco? Anyone have any insights to firm cultures or billable targets?

How do I know Big-Law is not for me?

I am a first year who just started a couple of months ago and I am literally confused all the time. I did some small work for two partners and they loved it, so put me on new deals but the mid levels I am staffed with absolutely hate the work I do. One said the work I did was laughable. I felt bed because I spent over 25 hours on this. I wouldn’t be very bothered but the other Associates in my class are killing it. So I just feel dumb all the time.

Question: do y’all really love this stuff and understand it? Or are you all on the “fake it til you make it” wave? I ask because I’m in a specialty group under the Corporate umbrella and many of the partners and some senior associates are extremely smart and clearly enjoy this stuff. Some even do “night time reading” to catch up on the recent laws. I, on the other hand, cannot wrap my head around it most of the time and would rather not waste energy doing it. Is it just me? What do i do? Quit?

Third year corp associate here. Drafting a contract from a form of agreement and some comments that were provided by the client. It’s taking me !!! FOREVER !!!! Like HOURS for what should be a simple contract. I am spending a lot of time trying to find ways to incorporate the clients vague comments appropriately while also staying consistent with with the form … am I nuts or is this normal?
