Ok I had a mentee in a similar boat - the most thoughtful designer, great work ethic. But he would say he wanted to be an Art Director or higher but was reluctant to take ownership of processes, presentation, or asserting his ideas into the process. We set him little stretch goals - a mini-presentation to the team on something he was passionate about (typography trends). Then the next time it was to not only come up with a mood board pitch but a process and template for all of our mood boards. He got senior status and is now working on advancing to an Art Director role. Some of the best leaders are introverts - when you are ready, maybe the world needs more of what you have to offer.
*Yes, my title mentions "lead" but that's only because I am a one-person show in my agency.
There are companies that will allow growth without forcing managerial duties onto employees who just want to specialize and grow within their skillset. I’m in a similar boat to you, as an art director with little interest in ever becoming a creative director.
Look for a company where the individual contributor and managerial track run parallel.
