Some companies/teams are fixated on the designation for certain role. For example, Adobe won’t consider non EMs for Sr Manager for its corporate strategy team

Same with Hilti - adamant about “EM” title, but I’d say it is rare. Most care more about what you’ve done and YOE vs title.
In the roles with which ive been involved in hiring for large tech, it is usually a pretty big question mark if someone left consulting after 2-3 year at associate level without showing a promotion. Its ideal If you can stay till after you get promoted- if not, just have a solid story for why you left prior to promotion (i.e., make sure they believe you left for personal reasons, vs that you got pushed out)
Stay away from such companies. I left McKinsey in less than 3 years and interviewed at many large tech and got offers. In fact, I know a LOT of companies that look down upon anyone who stayed more than 2-3 years in consulting.
Not everyone finds consulting a good fit. The fact that you made it to a top tier consulting shows you’re smart and 2 years is enough to master the toolkit required for other jobs.
Some companies care esp corporate strategy teams; others don’t. I have been an associate for 4 years (incl 2 mat leaves and one health related leave) - I was honest about explaining why I am still an associate and mentioned that I have been EMming but did not get designated yet.
I ended up taking an offer where they cared more about my YOE (12) and less my title
