I hear you. The truth is that it never really gets all that easy. Every phase is difficult for its own reason. But als joyous. About the fights, I try my best to communicate through it so they don't get into the habit of not talking about things during difficult times. I think long periods of unsolved issues are unhealthy, so maybe you could start changing that style in your relationship with the kids.
It can definitely be challenging. My kids are 19 and 17 now, and we’ve certainly had our bumps and lumps. It’s HARD to keep your cool when your teens seem to instinctively know exactly how to push all your buttons.
Thankfully, both my kids respond well to guidance and recommendations, as long as they come with the “why” behind them.
My best advice - pick your battles carefully and selectively. Is what they want to do temporary or reversible? Or is it really something they will feel the effects of for life? Is it something where the repercussions will happen naturally and quickly, or will they take years to be felt?
You are not alone. I haven’t figured out parenting either.
