Mine did that as puppies (Frenchies are known to do this) - how old is your dog? I really doubt it's got anything to do with the food. You need to stay on top of them when they go to the bathroom, and pick the poop up right away. We also redirected them immediately - "Good boy/girl! Here's a treat!" That helped to teach them that walking away from their poop would be rewarded.
try give them omega with the food
I had a Beagle mix that did that. It was due to a lack of protein so we switched dog foods to a high protein diet. That took care of the issue.

My German shepherd did that as a puppy. The vet prescribed a med that would “make her poop smell/taste bad” so the dog wouldn’t eat it. Only needed it for a few months to break the habit.
I’m going through this with my recent rescue. I haven’t had a dog that did this before so I’m learning as much as I can. I’ve tried adding wet food, which helped a bit, and I’ve switched mine to what I think is a higher quality food (stopped Costco brand and switched to Fromm). She still eats poop, both her own and my other dog’s poop. Unfortunately, I can’t give him anything to make his poop taste bad because he has a super sensitive stomach. Im thinking about changing food again to an air dried food to see if that helps. Right now, I try to go out with her every time she goes outside so that I can try to stop her if she tries to eat poop. I know that that’s not a viable option for you but that’s the only thing that has been somewhat successful for me.
I was told it's quite normal for puppies to eat their poop. Gross, but normal. You can give them pineapple though, apparently it changes the taste of their poop and they don't like it.
Pumpkin powder in their food. We’re having the same problem with our golden. Yesterdayi asked at our pet store and learned that giving them pumpkin helps. I’m looking for a pumpkin powder but might try the paste. Pumpkin does something to the dogs stool that makes it smell rancid and unpleasant. We have not tried it yet so….🤞🏼
He only started doing it when we had kids… he’s nearly 8 lol It’s just hard to watch him when we have two kids under three. We try!
We’ve tried OTC meds and powdered for his food to make it smell bad but it didn’t work.
He’s a mix between a terrier and an American Eskimo.

Why wait to change the food when the bag is gone? That’s like saying there’s something in your pantry or fridge that’s making you or your kids vomit but you’ll make them eat it until it’s finished. I understand that finances are a consideration but if you really think it’s the food …change it and donate the rest.
Dogs eating feces is usually driven by something they are deficient in…you should ask your vet.
To transition your dog to new food, gradually introduce it over 5-7 days, starting with a mix of 25% new food and 75% old food. Increase the proportion of new food each day until you're feeding 100% new food by day 7. This gradual approach helps minimize digestive upset.
