nope. play it safe. the background check is as much about your background as it is about the competency of the person doing the check.
you do not know who does it. maybe they outsourced it to an intern from south east Asia earning local minimum wage with no incentives for accuracy.
Small company. The COO is doing it…
This was quite a few years ago but I let my then VP know well in advance. We were sitting down for a one-over and she started going over all the things she and I were going to be working on together. One of the things she was talking about involved requesting a budget change. Then she started talking about needing to book travel. Let me stop you right there.
Similar time window to yours I think. I had already told the new employer I would need to push my start date to Q1 due to Q4 responsibilities. Effectively I gave 6 weeks notice. They used every bit of those 6 weeks to promote and train my replacement.
Update: I gave notice today. Will let y’all know how it goes lol
I normally see people advising against it, but I say if nothing will come back on your background check then go ahead. I have never been worried about my background check so I don't blame you for wanting to go ahead and put your two weeks in.
If your start date for your new company is in Jan. I would wait and put in notice about 2 weeks before that start date.
Lol and why would I do that… that would be opposite of the goal listed in my post
Never! Always wait for the background check to clear first

I’m comfortable putting in notice before background check clears but also I know nothing will come up. I definitely wait until after the offer letter is signed though.
I know of someone with “nothing to worry about” and got denied because of a similar name situation. They were able to clear things up but it cost them money with an attorney and weeks of no income.
What advantage do you gain by letting your current company know early? Are they going to pay you a bigger exit package? Goodwill that you'll never use? No, there is really no upside. So you are essentially taking on risk without any benefit. IMO, this would be ill advised.
Going to work with my manager to come up with an exact end date since being online through the holidays when everyone else is OOO helps no one. But if I take less notice time, it will go towards taking a longer trip in between. Hence giving notice now still serves my goal regardless how long the notice period is.
2nd update: background check took only 3 days and clears across the board so we good 😎
