IMO the canonical relationship partner raking in millions while networking on the golf green is becoming a lost art form…

I’m more shocked by how much some partners DONT make. The V10 is not representative of biglaw partner comp.
Agree with this - it takes so many more years as a partner to make meaningful money where you feel it’s worth it.
They’re just not doing it right. I feel like they don’t know to effectively delegate and be a good “relationship” partner. Probably love of the game or empty personal lives. If I made more than 1.5m a year, I would delegate everything I can, hop on a few calls that merit my presence, and try to recover from the road to get there.
Delegate work not personal life! Be friends a couple of stellar senior counsel or senior associates, buy them super expensive presents, go to their kids’ bday parties, etc and give them freedom to manage the teams. Reward them with smaller matters of their own so that they can push for their own partnership one day. Create an ecosystem of symbiosis where everybody helps each other and can be functioning human beings. I’m well on my way to this even just as a mid-level and I wouldn’t give up the people that I regularly work with for anything.
I see a lot of partners who make a lot of money and generally seem to really enjoy the law/working. If you’re the kind of person who is happier working than relaxing, it looks like a great gig. I, unfortunately, am not that person.
