Specialists: any tips on how to maximize efficiency? I’m typically working on 5-8 different matters on a given day and feel like I lose a ton of time switching back and forth

Privacy specialist here, typically juggling multiple deals plus our own practice. It just takes time, honestly - when I started it was overwhelming and now it’s settled in a lot more and it’s routine. I keep a running word doc with a few bullets about the facts of each transaction (deal type, industry, current stage, etc.) and that helps a lot, both with staying on top of things and with keeping things straight.

As far as our own clients, that’s what I pay more attention to and the hopping around just sort of comes with the territory. It does get easier though.

Was interviewing with a firm and soon after receiving an offer, learned of bad culture/toxic partners in the practice group from a couple of associates who recently lateraled from the firm. I turned the offer down. A partner that I clicked with while interviewing reached out asking me why I turned down the offer. Should I be honest and relay what I heard?

Mid 2020, I turned down an opportunity to jump ship from my small law firm to a big law firm. At the time I had 4 years of practice under my belt with managerial experience. I thought the offer was reasonable, come in at a 2nd year level, but with the uncertainty of the times I played it safe. Now I regret it. What avenues do I have, if any, to jump into big law from a small firm?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

I’m in the biglaw hiring process through an outside recruiter. It’s so frustrating because he’s having these conversations with the firm and only paraphrasing the gist of them to me. He says he can’t forward the exact emails. Is that BS? Why can’t I see what the firm is telling my recruiter?
