A company won’t hesitate to fire you without notice so the fact you’re giving any notice I think is fine.
Just get out. You will be fine. If you cared you would not leave
These things are not mutually exclusive. You can care and still want to quit.
I spoke with HR before formally submitting my notice and they said it was pretty common these days to see notices less than 2 weeks. Did not seem like a problem. With that being said, I was able to transition all of my work smoothly and didn’t have any issues.
I knew my old company let people go as soon as they put in their notice. I gave them a week and the let me go the next day.
I didn’t need a referral or we’re planning on going back.
It’s just a courtesy to give two weeks notices; however, understand that most companies at AT WILL meaning that can hire and fire at will. You DO NOT have to give a two week notice. You can actually resign at any point. The backend of resigning at any point, most times, is that you may have burned that bridge if you want to go back UNLESS you have a stellar track record or know someone who can get you back OR planned a short hiatus just in case the grass isn’t greener. 😉
ADF1, how would you deal with the references that is going to be requested by next potential employer? I have seen applications requiring prior direct supervisors' names and company phone numbers. In such cases, applicants may not want them to contact prior supervisors but it'd look like a red flag if applicant don't provide the info or checked "do not contact".
One of my team members put their notice on Wednesday last week. Did some transitions and left last Friday. I heard the partner tried to give a counter offer but it didn’t work out. So I think it depends on your team.
I’ve had to give less than two weeks before due to personal reasons. It wasn’t ideal, but I communicated as clearly as possible and tried to help with the transition. Some places are more understanding than others, though. How did it work out for you in the end?
Just had someone put in notice on Monday with last day being Friday. Manager group was peeved.
Companies want loyalty they’re unwilling to give. If companies want a standard notice time frame they should have employment contracts with their people otherwise most states in the US are at will employment and they are owed nothing. Companies want 2 weeks or a month of notice but will let you go with no notice.
I just did this. Gave notice Tuesday morning and last day was that Friday. And the way they treated me after I gave notice. I'm glad i didn't give them more time. They wanted me to show the person who told me they could anyone to do my job, all the things I did. As in create step by step video instructions as well as leave all my notes and tricks. They got bare minimum instructions, that anyone who knew what to do could do. If it is so easy to replace, shouldn't be that hard and they shouldn't need that much guidance.
Depends on if your colleagues take it personally lol
I got guilted into staying on for two weeks…
I left right after the next day. Just expected that you won’t rehire for the company. But I won’t look back person. Nothing hurts
Honestly. I think it’s the new norm, the last 3 people we had give notice it was less than a week. It definitely isn’t the most professional and it can be a small world but … it’s not uncommon.
I turned in my notice and they emailed me and said my resignation would start immediately no problem. I hated the job and ultimately got unemployment!
