You should go.
Are you asking whether to go or not? You definitely should.
Your role is to give your business legal advice. The business’s role is to sell to clients. You will be a much better advisor if you better understand the client dynamic and end goal. Not to mention the opportunity to deepen your relationship and trust with the business folks.
This is a no-brainer.
It’s always a nice surprise when you open an email and realize you are actually being invited to something, rather than review the contract with the venue!
Definite no brainer to say yes and enjoy some time relationship-building with your colleagues. After all, one of the perks of being in house (at least some of the time) is getting to build relationships with people who actually appreciate the work you do for them.
Absolutely! Great experience and it definitely shows their desire to make you part of the long term goals of organization. Watch the interactions carefully. How great!!!
No question you should go. This is where you build relationships with the business. You meet people who will make your job easier by being a resource. They also can open the door to later opportunities if they are - or later become- senior management.
Always take advantage of this sort of opportunity to grow your brand and relationships and visibly contribute to your organization. They are paying for you to travel. It will probably be fun and a boost to your career. My only caveat is that if it turns into a huge burden because you are getting too many of these requests down the road, then consider drawing some boundaries. But your first trip? Go! Have fun! (But don't do anything embarrassing!)
Agreed with last line- these trips are super fun especially if you like to travel, but be careful about alcohol. In my limited experience that’s basically the only real risk for some people (embarrassing themselves). Plus if you aren’t drunk you’ll get to watch whoever else inevitably has a little too much
Thank you everyone for your advice. I have signed up for the business trip!
