I enjoy teaching introductory statistics. I love showing how applicable and useful it is. Having students and the parents from algebra ask “when am I ever going to need this?” is so old, and at times, so hard to answer.
Told a parent this last night at open house how applicable and useful intro to stats was vs. pre calc (sorry pre calc teachers). He was torn with what to have his child take next year.
I was going to leave teaching.
Instead, my boss suggested we try the opposite of what I'd been teaching.
I specialized in struggling learners, exclusively remedial courses.
I now teach advanced Pre-Cal and AP Calculus.
I found my calling, I LOVE teaching these courses and these students.
It wasn't for me. The prep work for AP Cal is really intense.
I never needed to stay up late trying to figure out how to explain a line to algebra students.
But differential equations and many other topics presented have incredible nuance and depth in calculus. In terms of prep and grading, Calculus is easily 5 times more work.
Less pleading with kids to do more work and calling mommies with Calc I will admit.
I love calculus for my advanced 11th-12th graders. Makes me feel like I can utilize my degree finally lol
Pre-algebra because I feel like it is a turning point in their math journey. If they learn conceptually at this level they can go on successfully with confidence.
I have enjoyed teaching anything from regular math in the 7th grade up to Calculus. Watching kids eyes when they finally understand it. That's what keeps me going!
I love algebra. It's like a fun puzzle to me and it's awesome finding ways to apply it to real life problems for the kids
I like teaching Statistics. It's so different from the Algebra - Calculus track, and I love how applicable it is
I enjoy algebra a lot. Contrary to popular belief the methods can actually be used daily in analytical thinking
By far, Geometry is my favorite to teach!
I've taught 6/7/8, HS pre-algebra, and geometry.
I currently teach 7/8 math and plan to move to the HS next year to teach geometry and Integrated Algebra.
I love algebra! I also really enjoy teaching remedial classes to introduce students to success in math when they’ve never really experienced it before.
Algebra 2! I love teaching a class that is challenging but has older students who mostly want to succeed.
Algebra 1
Hey CA teachers, are you still wearing masks. Just wondering.
High school teacher at a private school here and masks are still mandatory at our school indoors.
We have integrated math in my district. Never was really a fan of Geometry, but I prefer Algebra and Algebra 2. I love exponents and square roots and graphing.
I’ll never teach geometry. I can’t even draw a stick figure 😂
Remedial…!! All the middle grades!!!
I really do love love geometry, too!
