I picked non computer screen activities so I'm focusing a lot on illustration in my free time and film photography. Instead of turning on the tv at night, I pop on a podcast or audiobook and draw for an hour, call it my me time. But I can't force it
Take a class with homework and a regular thing. Helps me focus and feel like I have real deadlines
I hear ya, but if AI isn’t motivation enough to start creating more avenues and opportunities for yourself, I don’t know what is. In 6 years creative departments are going to be skeleton crews.
My buddy now makes more $$$ off his art than at his agency.
Find a class or a drawing night or something to go to and make it a reoccurring thing, like treat it like an appointment and try not to let work get in the way for that one night a week or whatever.

Commit to a manageable about of time and a regular schedule. Put it in a spreadsheet and track it. Be consistent.
Doesn’t matter if it’s 5 hours a day 7 days a week or 1 hour 1 day a week. Just stick to it.
I came here to ask a similar question. But from my experience, find a partner you like working with (doesn’t have to be in advertising). It is honestly refreshing to work on a project and to be the creative director and client all at once. You discover new things about yourself and your interests and skill sets. But I also struggle with having the motivation or brainpower after thinking hard all day, so following this thread
