White male, 3.6 GPA at top public school (like UVA), 700 GMAT, 3.5 years work experience (2y in big 4 MC, 1.5y in corp dev), letter of rec from HBS grad CFO of my company.

How bad is it to defer acceptance by a year, but then reapply to other preferred schools next application cycle in hopes of getting a better offer?

Does an MBA (US) make sense for me? Male, Indian, Age 32, Married working in tech consulting with 10 YOE. Base is $165 with steady increases and bonus is typically 15%. I eventually do want to cross the $300K threshold but I know stopping work for 2 years and getting and MBA probably won’t get me a $300K job right away. Becoming a manger in my current company/path will probably get me there in terms of TC. Also considering EMBA from a good school (Wharton Global, Duke, Kellogg, Booth).

My mba “coach” is a bit concerned because I want to pivot into an industry that I don’t have any experience in, and that industry primarily does JIT recruiting. (Primarily biotech/pharma hoping to pivot to luxury / retail)
