Estimated tax payment question:
I converted $30k of rollover 401k into a Roth IRA and have $26k of realized ST Capital Gains this year (Roth conversion in end of Q1 and most capital gains in Q2).
My total federal withholding tax last year was approximately $12k and this year I will have 40% more in reported income on my employer W2 and anticipate higher that $12k federal withholding for my new job. I have a tax question. My father in law passed away in 2020 and we inherited his house. We are still in the probate process and we haven't got the house title. However, we have been paying the mortage and interest since we inherited the house. We filed the tax return for deceased person last year. Can we claim the mortgage interest deduction this year on our joint return (even though the 1099 will have my father in law's name)? Really appreciate any help!
