7909 is JFK… and considering United abandoned JFK years ago, it’s operated by NH
Pro
It should be very obvious during booking - on united at least it very specifically says “flight operated by X” when you’re looking at flight options
Typically, the four digit flight numbers are code share flights.
UA 7909 in recent history and for at least the next few days appears to be JFK-HND (not EWR-Tokyo). Operated by ANA. Codeshare is NH109.
The Tokyo-EWR flights operated by UA are usually 2 or 3 digit — seems like recently it’s been UA 78 or UA 130.
It should day this on the UA app / website when you’re booking.
Vast majority of Asian airlines are better than American ones. I would exclude just Air India, Spring Airlines and the low costs…

Yes that’s what I am trying to do. Avoid UA or AA in favor of JAL or ANA for Japan trip with kids.
