Bodega de la Ardosa for tapas and drinks. Not pricey. One of the oldest bars in Madrid. Really worth it. Just know it’s small and can get really packed right after work or at dinner (9-10 pm).
Restaurante Morgana. Incredible food and neither too pricey nor pretentious.
If you’re staying in Malasaña, I would often grab breakfast and green juice (or coffee) at Brunch Club. Especially if you need to check email, do any work.
Juana la Loca for lunch.
And if you do want to spend a little more money and have a truly special dinner, go to one of Dani García’s restaurants.
Happy to share more. I go there yearly.
If you don't have any food restrictions, this was one of my favorite restaurants hands down: Sala de Despiece

It should have some Michelin star(s). Pretty delectable and the dishes have a performative piece to them usually. Lots of fun.
Love this place
Museo del jamón! Amazing food and you can’t beat the price. Also “croquetas de bacalao” at Casa Labra. Just all of it truly. Go forth and eat well!
I also HIGHLY recommend this foodie tour if it’s your first time in Madrid. It’s in a non-touristy part of the city. I’d do it my 1st or 2nd day. It’s delicious and fun.

I often went to taberna el sur de huertas when I lived there. Maybe not the most authentic but a good atmosphere and good food.
Rising Star
San Ginés for the OG churros
Roostiq for amazing traditional farm to table Spanish food, tiki taco for the BEST tacos I’ve ever had (they’re also ~1€ each), zenith for American brunch, el Tigre for free tapas with a purchase of a drink, malafemmena has great Italian, kippu for sushi
source: lived in Madrid for a year and also dated a Spanish guy who knew the best spots lol
Thank you all these are all amazing recommendations!!!! Will be looking into each one of them
Another maybe weird one - my travel buddy really wants good Italian food 😖 any recommendations for that?
I went to this place called oven mozzarella with a guy from Italy and i don’t recall him commenting either way. I recall it was decent
