Just got an offer for a Sr. AWS DevOps role at 145K, I will be working remotely 100% with maybe 5% travel, if any. No bonus with this company. I have over 8 years of DevOps and AWS, all AWS certs . Would you stay living in a city you like but have very few friends there, or move back to your hometown where most of your friends and family are? My current city has a population of about 500k and my hometown is about 100k. My main reason to move away from my hometown was dating and jobs, but neither seem to be going any better over the past 2 years. COL is about 28% higher than my hometown and jobs don’t pay much better.

I have been applying for internships the last few months. Got few first round interviews but never concluded further in the application stage. Lots of rejections because I am not from a target university.

At what point do you draw the line on WLB? Working insane hours on a long/term project with what feels like no end in sight. It’s not sustainable but clearly expected. Could you get fired for drawing lines in the sand and saying (example) “come 8:30 every night I’m logging off”. That’s a 65 hour work week as-is but I currently am up until midnight working consistently. For context I’ve been rated as a strong performer consistently and am not new to the job so it’s not a lack of understanding.
